RE: campground club membership question

Passport America is probably the best bargain on the market with literally thousands of parks available and half price camping. Yes there are SOMETIMES restrictions about how long you can stay or when discounts are available but it has been our EMERGENCY campground locater for quite a few years now. Pretty hard to do wrong for $44.00 a year.
If you're thinking about one of the park memberships like "Thousand Trails" or others, give a look on Ebay or Cregs List and you can usually find them for cents on the dollar.

RE: Black/Grey water dumping in Blue container

When I do it I hitch the trailer to the truck and tow the whole thing to the dump station and about 40 minutes later I'm sitting under the awning again sipping a cool one. Neighbors are spending the day running back and forth with multiple trips and then trying to clean up spillage around their site (or NOT cleaning it up). I'm not particularly fond of handling sewage ONCE let along a half dozen times :)

RE: After-market nose cone for TT?

My truck has a hard tonneau cover on it's 8 foot long bed. With the cover left OPEN it becomes the largest air deflector you can imagine and does very little to effect fuel mileage. If you want less wind resistance the best way to achieve it is to slow down.
A friend has a VR-1 with the pointed nose and says his mileage isn't any better than it was with his last, more traditional, brick shaped trailer.

RE: Cleaning travel trailers

I can't think of many things that would make it become MORE of a dirt magnet than coating it with oil. I use soap and a special "universal solvent" (water) and it works just fine. Good luck / Skip

RE: ROO Cabinets

Yeah that's the problem with engineered wood products. They're just not soft enough to allow them to swell and grip the screws. Best advice I can give you is to get some Gorilla glue and glue the screws before you put them back in. Good luck / Skip

RE: fed up

Sorry but your warranty doesn't say ANYTHING about replacing unless it can't be repaired. I'd say you are going to have a problem getting a new RV unless the same problem occurs multiple times and they don't have any luck in repairing the problem. It's POSSIBLE that a new RV could be wrangled out of them but it would be just to avoid bad publicity. It NEVER hurts to ask but very RARELY happens. Even with a car/truck where lemon laws are in effect, the same problem has to occur several times to get that kind of relief. Good luck / Skip

RE: Laptop Disk Space C & D Drives.

Any time you add a file you should be able to designate where it's being stored. When you load a file or SAVE a file just designate the D drive and create a folder for documents or files/programs etc.

RE: Hitch Question

Tilting the ball is how the pressure on the spring bars is adjusted. It will be different for each trailer and tow vehicle combination determined by the height of the tow vehicle and weight of the trailer tongue factored in by the weight rating of the spring bars. If your trailer/truck combination tows level with the correct amount of weight being transferred you're fine.

Or, will our US guys adjust, albeit painfully, and still make tucks?
Adjust by keeping on doing just what they're doing? :H

RE: Hair pin turns and tight roads

WOW, just how tight can they be? I've towed my old 25 footer over California route 1 and it doesn't get a LOT tighter than that. Never had to make any kind of multi-point turn to get around any of those turns and many of them are 15 MPH rated. The trailer should turn nearly as tight as the truck does with no problem but you MAY need to learn to drive the outside of the turn to keep the trailer on the road.

RE: Computer programs for a gasoline engine

Chipping a gas engine can add a fairly small amount of additional power on some engines but mostly at the upper RPM range and USUALLY it means programing for higher octane fuel to see any significant power increase. Usually is NOT a good way to improve economy since with more power you're apt to use it and gas being more expensive to begin with...etc. RPMs are strictly controlled by the transmission NOT the engine. When it shifts to a lower gear the RPMs go higher. Additional power MIGHT make it possible to hold a higher gear when you might otherwise down shift but STILL not a good means of economizing.

ANY of the Rockwood 5th wheels are easily within the specs of my half ton and can't imagine that Dodge doesn't ALSO have a model that would handle them. Good luck / Skip

115,000 on mine so far with 75,000 of that towing the trailer.

RE: Tow/Haul

Yep, my guess is that's probably the first time it's ever been able to hold OD while towing. Nothing about tow haul that has anything to do with RPMs other than at shift points.

RE: Targets of Theft

Sorry to hear of your battery loss but if you start spending all your time worrying about protecting everything you own it won't leave a lot of time for enjoying having them. Turn the loss into your insurance company, take reasonable measures to protect your stuff and REALIZE that if they really want it they can get it but it may require a lot more damage to your RV getting it.

RE: Not just another aimless, inane fuel saving tip! Really!

Smoker is absolutely correct about the weight issue and when you COMBINE it with slowing down significant savings are available. Making the effort on my last trip increased my mileage by over 2 MPG over my previous best with my current towing combination.

RE: Running an RV refridgerator with an inverter?

I'm thinking about adding an inverter to my 03 travel trailer to keep the fridge running while traveling down the road as we take many long trips. I have two deep cycle batteries and was thinking along the lines of a 1500 watt inverter. Does anyone have any thoughts on this?
If it's an RV fridge it should ALREADY have a very easy means of running while traveling. Can't be any easier than just putting the button on "auto" and drive away. Good luck / Skip

RE: TT Battery Charging System

If you find an air conditioner that WON'T make the generator come out of ECON mode I'd be amazed. Your air conditioner is the largest draw you have on the trailer. It's not going to make any difference whether the charger is running or not.
